Self-Portrait “Wallpaper”

So I came across this wallpaper in an old house and I just had to do a portrait in-front of it. My lovely girlfriend Kari helped me out with the shooting part. I loved the wallpaper but I also wanted you to really focus on me, so I shot it wide open at 2.8 causing the wallpaper behind me to be blurred. As for the lighting its all window light, how can you beat that!? A simple portrait + interesting background = cool photo. I’m now planning on getting a couple of different wallpapers like this for future photos because I liked it so much.

Tight crop on my eye. Got to love the 50mm 1.4

Self-Portrait: On the Mountain

Trigger man: Myself

Strobist: Built in flash +1.0

Camera info: Nikon D80 | 18-55mm ƒ/3.5-5.6 | ƒ/10 | 1/200th.

On the top, here is my seventh photo in my series of work on the mountain. Here is a perfect look into how I spend most my overcast snowy days on top of the mountain. This day in particular was a super slow day as you can see by no one in the background. I thought this photo turned out pretty darn for being one of those hand held my space photos.

Self-Portrait Day 28|365 iPhone in the Dark

I have always wanted to use my iphone as a light source. Today I did just that, it was sort of a pain because I had to hold it up above me and get the lighting right. But I managed to pull it off. It was really surprising to me how much exposure was needed to get the shot. I was shooting all the way up at ISO 6400 and wide open. You can see all the grain from the high ISO but I think it kind of goes with the photo. So my phone put out a lot less light then I thought it would, but its still nice to know that I have a light source if need be.

Strobist: iPhone hand held to camera right.

Self-Portrait Day 22|365

Finally an escape from work and the cold. My family and I are heading down to souther Utah to St. George for a half marathon my mother is running in. So were be there from today the 22nd to Monday the 25th. Her run is tomorrow but we figured we would make a mini vacation out of the whole thing. This photo was taken when we were driving through St. George. I used a slower shutter speed to streak the lights on the street and give a feeling of movement. As for the lighting I knew for sure I didn’t want it on camera but I still wanted to contain it to inside the moving car. So I decided to bounce it off a silver reflector right in front of me, I also used a snoot on the flash so I didn’t spill light everywhere. I chose this one out of them all because I really like the warm tones in the background.

Trigger woman: Judy Thompson

Strobist: One SB800 with snoot on camera angled toward silver reflector in front of me.
