Self-Portrait Day 31|365 Getting Ready

The locker room, this is my fourth photo into my series of working on the mountain. Here is the place that I go every morning to suit up and get ready to head up on the mountain. I can’t think of any other place that is as hot or as smelly as this locker room. As you can see I started to sweat just taking this photo after being done with work for the day. It was a pretty interesting photo to light because of the space and the idea I had. But it came out great!

Self-Portrait Day 21|365

GageThompson-1

Today my buddy Mikey invited me to go night snowboarding with him and a couple other friends up at the Brighton Ski resort. The only problem was that I leave all my snowboarding gear up at the Canyons resort for work. But they were kind enough to hook me up with everything I needed to board. Everything from the board and boots to the gloves and goggles (so thank you Mikey and Kjell). This was my first time going night boarding and first time at Brighton for that matter. It was awesome I really enjoyed the terrain that Brighton had to offer. As for the night thing, it was incredible its like a whole nother world at night with the lights, especially because it had just snowed and it was pretty windy. So your looking down from the lift at the snow covered ground as the wind wisps more snow across it.

It didn’t take to long for me to get the hang of all the new gear I was sporting. Snowboarding is snowboarding after all. After taking several runs we decided to grab the camera gear for the last run of the night. We knew in advance that we couldn’t do to many shots because the resort was closing soon, and it was cold, windy, and snowing. So we decided on a couple of spots to make some photos. My original plan was to do some off camera lighting with my speedlights but it was much to windy for a speedlight on a stand. So I decided to keep it to an on-camera flash and to drag the shutter a bit to burn in the ambient light from the mountain. Because snow is so reflective the on camera flash really brought out the falling snow. Which is what I was planning on anyways, as I see it were snowboarding in a blizzard so lets take some photos that look like were in a blizzard. The photo I chose was taken on the roller box at the bottom of the mountain, it turned out really cool so I decided to go with it. What do you guys think of it?
