Self-Portrait Day 27|365 My Studio

I’m super stoked I finally went out and bought a roll of seamless black paper. I have been wanting to do this for a long time and I’m glad I did. Instead of having the typical lightstands hold up my background I went to my local home depot and bought a couple of wall hooks for a closet pole. Then I also grabbed a ten foot dowel and mounted all that to my wall and it works fantastically.

So with this image I really wanted to show off my new background paper and my studio space. As you can see there isn’t much space the ceiling is only six and a half feet high. I believe the length and width is about 12′ x 12′ so it may look a little longer because I’m zoomed out to 18mm but don’t be fooled this is a very small room for a studio. It does a great job for head shots or half-length photos, anything past that the room becomes way to small to work in. But its still a little slice of photography heaven for me. As for the lights in this photo I not only wanted to light up the room for the photograph itself, but I also wanted to show off my lighting gear as well.

Trigger man: Myself

Strobist: One SB600 acting as background light, but really lighting me. The other two flashes are just for show.

Self-Portrait Day 15|365

www.gagethompson.comDirty room, where do you begin? I’m sure you all know how that is, you just look at a mess and have no clue where you should start? Well that’s the idea behind this photograph. Pure chaos and no clue where to begin. If your wondering..(is that really how messy his room is?) The answer is sort of, I would say its half this bad. Anyways don’t judge me to much on the content of this photo its not all true. I also scattered some penny’s around the room but sadly you can only make out a couple, the rest are too small. What I really should do is create a list of things to find in the room for you guys ha-ha maybe in another photo.

Trigger man: Myself

Strobist: One SB800 on camera aiming into corner of room. Another SB600 right behind me pointing up to fill room.

Camera info: Nikon D700 | 16mm ƒ/2.8 Fisheye | ƒ/8 | 1/320th | Triggered with Nikons CLS.
