We went to Kennecott for my fathers birthday a couple day back. For those of you who are not familiar with Kennecott it is one of the worlds largest mines. They mine primarily for copper but get a little silver and gold as well. I was really excited because I have always seen it off in the distance but never took the time to go check it out. There were lots of really cool facts about the mine. Like the trucks that move the ore are two stories tall and the mine is 3/4 miles deep by 2.5 miles across. The mine can be seen from SPACE! Anyhow even though we were going during mid day when the light is pretty nasty I figured I would sport my camera anyways. So here are some photos from our trip.

My dad super stoked getting in the car.

When you get to the mine there is a visitors center and a look out spot over the mine. Sadly you cant go down in the mine.

JR scoping the two story trucks that look like small toys from a distance.

One of the trucks tires. Cost around $15,000 and last 9 months.

Looking across. I really like how this photo is layered. Some foreground, mine, green hills, and blue sky.

My favorite shot of the mine.

This is where all the trucks converge and dump there loads down the crusher. The crusher smashes the huge ore and places it on a conveyor belt that runs 5 miles to get processed down to copper.

After checking out Kennecott we went drove up a random road to see where it went.

After driving forever we decided to look on my iPhone to see where it went. It ended up in Tooele…we turned back.

Judy in the back doing some sort of work.

JR waiting at Bangerter hwy. What a thug!
