Self-Portrait Day 25|365

Today is our last day in St. George but before we left I wanted to check out the St. George skatepark. Or as they call it the SK8 George skatepark (insert laugh here). The last time I skated that park was back in the day with my buddy Skyler and the whole time we were there it rained, so it was nice to have the dry concrete. I knew before even setting up the shot that I wanted to shoot it with my fisheye lens on a quarter pipe. Just so I could get that cool distortion you get with those lenses. So lucky for me I found a quarter pipe that I could put my sun to my back and some flashes in front to fill in the shadows. My dad was a real trooper with this shot, he laid on the ground with the camera for a good 30 photos (thank you dad).

Self-Portrait Day 24|365

Today was a pretty chill day. We all slept in, then went driving around St. George for a while. Grabbed a little something to eat picked up a movie. Went back to the hotel watched the movie. After the movie we decided to go check out the hot tub. Which as you can see I decided to do my self-portrait in. It was a pretty sketch set up I had my off camera flash on a stand with an umbrella at waters edge, any little breeze would send my flash face first into the hot water. Then I had my dad taking pictures of me with my 25 hundred dollar camera about six inches from the boiling water of camera death. But hey you got to put your camera where no one else will to get those different shots. Right? The hardest part of making this photo was timing the steam trying to still have steam in the shot but not right over my face. Which I think we were fairly success full on.
Trigger man: JR Thompson
Strobist: One SB600 with shoot through umbrella to camera right.
Camera info: Nikon D700 | 18-35mm ƒ/3.5-4.5 | ƒ/4.5 | 1/6th | Triggered with Nikons CLS

Self-Portrait Day 22|365

Finally an escape from work and the cold. My family and I are heading down to souther Utah to St. George for a half marathon my mother is running in. So were be there from today the 22nd to Monday the 25th. Her run is tomorrow but we figured we would make a mini vacation out of the whole thing. This photo was taken when we were driving through St. George. I used a slower shutter speed to streak the lights on the street and give a feeling of movement. As for the lighting I knew for sure I didn’t want it on camera but I still wanted to contain it to inside the moving car. So I decided to bounce it off a silver reflector right in front of me, I also used a snoot on the flash so I didn’t spill light everywhere. I chose this one out of them all because I really like the warm tones in the background.
Trigger woman: Judy Thompson
Strobist: One SB800 with snoot on camera angled toward silver reflector in front of me.
