Auto Mask in Lightroom

I was just using the auto mask feature in Adobe Lightroom on one of my recent New York shots. I was using it to select the sky behind the statue of liberty, and this photo looked like the perfect photo to use the auto mask feature with the local adjustment brush.

Auto Mask

I put on a red over lay so you can see exactly where my brush painted. As you can see it did a fantastic job of just selecting the sky and not the statue. Saving me hours of time selecting it myself. All I had to do was turn on auto mask and paint away and it avoided cutting into the statue. Then all I had to do was tweak with the setting making the sky darker. I was trying to get more detail out of the sky you can kind of see that I did in the bottom right corner. But most of the sky didn’t have any detail at all so I just lowered the brightness of the sky to make the statue stand out a little more.

Pano for the iPhone

I think this Pano application for the iPhone deserves a blog post. This is easily in my top 3 apps on my iPhone. Its super easy to use and you can be very creative with it. Not to mention you end up with bigger pictures from your iPhone. I have yet to print one of these out but I will soon and I’ll let you guys know how it comes out.

The recent update allows you to shoot a lot more photos and stich them together. You used to only be able to take 10 or so. Now it lets you take as many as your ever need for a good pano. It also now allows you to choose between shooting in landscape or portrait style.

Anyways I hope you like the photos I have made with this very cheep app. And if you have an iPhone this is a must have app I promise!

First Place at Local Art Show!

I found out today I got first place in the color photography professional division at the American Fork Steel Days art show. It was the last photo I would have ever expected to win in a Utah art show. But it goes to show you anything can happen I guess.
I found this event very interesting the year before I left for Hallmark Institute of Photography I was in my senior year of high school and I didn’t even place in the high school division. Now a year later I enter in a couple of photos into the professional division and got first. So I guess I can safely say Hallmark did a pretty good job at teaching me.
